Jason Blackwell—widely known as Chef J. Black—is a nationally recognized chef, educator, and photographer with a signature flair for Cajun-inspired cuisine and a passion for curating unforgettable culinary experiences. Whether he's creating custom menus for private dinners, weddings, or corporate events, Chef J. Black brings heart, culture, and creativity to every table.

As an award-winning chef, Chef J. Black’s journey has been featured on national television. In 2017, he competed on Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen. In 2022, he earned the title of Chopped Champion, proudly representing Dallas on Food Network’s top-rated show Chopped.

In addition to his work as a chef and event curator, Jason leads the Culinary Arts Program at Skyline High School in Dallas, TX, where he’s mentoring the next generation of chefs. His commitment to education, excellence, and community is at the core of everything he does.

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Jason is a proud attended South Oak Cliff High School as well as studied Criminal Justice at the University of North Texas, where he became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He later pursued his culinary calling at Dallas College’s Culinary, Pastry, and Hospitality program, becoming one of the program’s most notable alumni.

Outside of the kitchen and classroom, Jason is a passionate visual storyteller through photography, capturing moments with the same attention to detail and artistry that defines his cooking.

Most importantly, Jason is the proud father of Langston, Harper, and Grayson Blackwell. His greatest joy is building a legacy rooted in culture, creativity, and community.
